Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge is currently well underway in the school. We have 265 students registered in our school doing the challenge, 15 of these have already completed this. There are approximately 200,000 students involved in this across Victoria . Premier Steve Bracks has set the challenge for these students to read, 15 books for years 3-6 and 30 books as a class exercise for Preps -2. Everyone is enjoying this and comments are being made that the students are reading not only well but a variety of different genres as well.

  Book Fair

We will be having the Book Fair again coming to us some time in November. Remember this is a great opportunity to purchase good quality books that often can’t be found in bookstores. Not only does it encourage good reading habits for the students, we also receive a percentage of the sales which we use to purchase new books for the library.

Book Week

Children’s Book Week is celebrated each year in mid to late August. The Children’s Book Week Council organizes a variety of activities to celebrate this and our school always participates in these activities. Just prior to the start of Book Week the winning  and honor books of the Children’s Book of the Year Awards are announced Certificates and prizes are made to the authors and illustrators of these books.

A short list of the nominated books can be found on the website, of the Children’s Book Council of Victoria.
